Updated attendees about Gov STITTs budget cut proposals. Like getting rid of forestry & Fire Service. The Republican Representative also showed concern over Mental Health and senior meals which are also on the governors list of budget cuts. These are not approved and from the sound of it they will not be cut easily.
Senator David Bullard from Durant, who has been gratuitous enough to come to Henryetta the past three months to keep us in the loop, mentioned several bills. The Senate Bill 1027 , which puts guardrails on outside election influence and
, which allows Oklahoma to recognized gold and silver U.S. as legal tender, exempting them from taxation.
Both representative fetgetter and Senator Bullard mentioned a need for Constitutional Change in Oklahoma, siting that a change has not been made since statehood- look for more information about this next year.
Joseph Silk, representative from Congressman Josh Brecheens office, was available for questions from citizens. Being a former state Senator himself, his knowledge of politics was very much appreciated by the first time forum attendees. The most recent bill introduced by Congressman Brecheen is a SNAP reform bill. This legislation would tackle mismanaged SNAP benefits by closing loopholes, expanding work requirements for able-bodied adults.
The Henryetta chamber of commerce will hold its 4th and final forum of the year on May 2nd. 11am at Shoney’s. We urge all citizens to come and keep informed. Our district representatives and elected officials are ready to answer questions and give updates on issues that affect all Oklahomans.
