‘Carry The Cross’: Good Friday Tradition in Henryetta Draws Thousands Online and some on the Streets

Carry-The-Cross

Henryetta, OK – April 18, 2025 – Yesterday, the Church of the Nazarene in Henryetta continued a powerful tradition with its annual Good Friday event, Carry The Cross. Participants walked down Main Street carrying a large wooden cross in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s journey to Calvary—a visual act of faith that has become an emotional moment for the community each year.

While Henryetta’s population sits at just over 5,500 people, the online impact was staggering. The event garnered nearly 15,000 views on social media platforms within hours, proving that this small-town tradition speaks to a much larger audience. The video of the walk sparked an outpouring of emotion from viewers across Oklahoma and beyond.

Comments flooded in with words of encouragement and reverence:

“Praise God.” – Gary McGowin
“We had this today in Seminole!!! GOOD JOB GUYS!!! 💖💖” – Judy Capps
“Praise the Lord Jesus Christ 🙌 🙏 💖” – Vince Allen
“Oh I love this.” – Alberta Kossakowski
“Give Him Praise. 🙌🙏 🇺🇸” – Jamie Koenig Bailey
“I LOVE THIS! 😇❤✝” – Raven Schatt

While the overwhelming majority of responses were filled with spiritual encouragement and love, a respectful exchange of differing views also emerged in the comments. One user, Alexander White, raised the topic of religious expression in public spaces, leading to a multi-thread dialogue about America’s foundations and the role of faith in public life.

Despite differing views, the heart of the event remained undisturbed—a shared moment of community, faith, and reflection. The walk served as both a public act of worship and a quiet invitation for all to consider the message of Good Friday, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the son of God.  .

The Henryetta Church of the Nazarene has hosted this event for some years, and it continues to be a visual reminder of the Easter season’s meaning. For many, it is more than tradition—it’s testimony.

Whether walking in person or watching from a screen, Carry The Cross stirred hearts in Henryetta and far beyond.
