The Henryetta Lions Club recently honored the extraordinary life and legacy of Lion Ron McAfee, a man whose unwavering dedication to community and service left an indelible mark on Henryetta and beyond.

Lion Ron graduated from Dewar High School in 1955 and soon after settled in Henryetta, where he co-founded B&R TV with business partner Bud Gaither. But beyond his entrepreneurial spirit, it was his commitment to the Lions Club that truly defined him.

For nearly 65 years, Lion Ron was an active member of the Henryetta Lions Club, earning the distinction of perfect attendance for 64 years and 7 months—a record believed to be unmatched in the organization’s history. He and his wife Mary, who accompanied him to meetings even during vacations, demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to the values of Lionism.

As a long-standing pillar of the club, Lion Ron volunteered for countless initiatives and played a vital role in sustaining its mission. His tireless service was recognized with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship—the highest honor bestowed by Lions Clubs International—awarded to individuals whose humanitarian work reflects the vision of the organization’s founder.

In tribute to his lifetime of service, April 24th has officially been proclaimed “Lion Ron McAfee Day” in Henryetta. This special recognition was celebrated with a heartfelt ceremony attended by his family, including his wife Mary, daughter Ronnia, granddaughter Pansy, and great-grandchildren Gabriel and Faythe, as well as grandchildren Nicholas Andrews and Tammy Andrews Evans.

As part of this enduring tribute, Lion Ron’s vest will be formally presented at the Oklahoma Lions State Convention and permanently displayed at the State Office. This gesture, led by Henryetta Lions Club President Amber Mordecai, ensures that his legacy continues to inspire Lions across the state. “When I stepped into the role of president, I knew I wanted to make sure Lion Ron’s contribution didn’t go unrecognized,” Mordecai said. “His dedication deserved a spotlight far beyond a passing moment.”

The Henryetta Lions Club also extends its heartfelt appreciation to the state Lions leadership—District Governor David Woodell, Past District Governor Dollie Woodell, Future District Governor Nancy Wood, and IPCC Neal Wood—for joining the celebration and honoring a man whose legacy will live on in the spirit of Lionism.
