Okmulgee-OK, In July 2023, Oklahoma Human Services expanded access to self-sufficiency services for low-wage workers by increasing the number of Work Ready Oklahoma (WRO) Centers across the state. These centers are designed to serve not only individuals and families within their own counties but also those from surrounding areas—bringing resources closer to where people live and work.
The mission of WRO is to strengthen families by helping low-income individuals secure stable, quality employment that offers livable wages. In doing so, the program fosters long-term financial stability, enhances family well-being, and improves overall quality of life. Beyond supporting individuals, this approach contributes to stronger communities by cultivating a skilled and resilient workforce, driving local economic growth and community vitality.
One of the newest additions to the network is the Okmulgee WRO Employment Center, operated by Deep Fork Community Action Foundation Inc., which began offering services in October. The interior renovations are nearly complete, and a grand opening celebration will be announced in the near future.
Adding a creative local touch to the new center, artist Lacy Southern was commissioned to paint a mural that beautifully captures iconic landmarks and cultural symbols from the Okmulgee area. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, view the mural, and learn more about the valuable programs and support WRO offers.
